Berhampur/Phulbani: An elephant calf fell into an abandoned well in Karada forest range in Raikia of Kandhamal district late at night on Thursday. The baby elephant was spotted by locals in Badabaraba jungle today morning following which the forest officials were alerted.
A team comprising forest, fire, and police personnel rushed to the spot and initiated attempts to rescue the calf from the pit. Till the last reports came, efforts were on to bring the baby elephant out of the well. The condition of the calf is stated to be stable, sources said.
