Bhubaneswar: A one-month-old elephant calf was rescued today after being found trapped in mud in a paddy field near Shyamsundarpur village under the Angul Forest Range.
According to reports, a herd of elephants had entered the area from a nearby forest on Friday night to feed on paddy crops. The herd included the baby elephant. As dawn approached, the elephants began returning towards the Mandargiri forest, but the calf got stuck in the muddy field and was unable to free itself. The mother elephant, unable to rescue her calf, eventually left it behind and moved back into the forest with the herd.
Early in the morning, a local farmer saw the stranded calf and immediately informed the Forest Department.
Acting on the report, a team of forest officials rushed to the spot and safely rescued the young elephant.
