Bhubaneswar: The Capital Hospital authorities in Bhubaneswar have taken strict actions vis-à-vis the allegations of newborn swapping allegations at the health center.

Capital Hospital director Dr Laxmidhar Sahoo on Wednesday said that the authorities have suspended the attendant who is reportedly responsible for the confusion till the probe into the matter is complete. He alleged that the present confusion is mainly owing to the misinformation spread by the attendant who was inside the labour room during the delivery of the child. “We are taking several steps to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future.”

It is worth mentioning here that a man on Tuesday accused the staffers of the Capital Hospital of swapping his newborn boy with a girl soon after the birth.

Dr Sahoo further said that henceforth the hospital would allow a lady from the patient’s family to wait outside the labour room to avoid such circumstances.

Meanwhile, the father of the newborn girl, Pranakrushna Biswal, has refused to accept the infant as his child and demanded that a DNA test be conducted under the supervision of police to confirm the parents of the child. “I want the hospital authorities to undertake a DNA test today and I will only accept the handover of the child based on the DNA report.”

The hospital authorities have agreed to Biswal’s demand for the DNA test, Dr Sahoo said.
