Malkangiri: With vibrant processions, rhythmic drumbeats, and devout chants, the highly anticipated Bada Yatra 2025 got underway at the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border, marking a joyous celebration of spirituality and tradition.
Thousands of fervent devotees from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh congregated to witness the sacred procession of deities Kanamraj, Balraj, Potraj, and Mutuyulamma (Jagyanseni) from the revered Manyamkonda Hill shrine in Malkangiri’s Kalimela block to Poleru in Andhra Pradesh.
As per reports, the famous Bada Yatra of Malkangiri district is celebrated once every two years. This festival in Malkangiri is a confluence of people from all walks of life.
As per traditional customs, the yatra kicked off with a holy dip by the three deities Lord Balraj, Potraj and Kanamraj, along with Goddess Mutyaluma at the Tadaka Reu Snana Kund in Poleru, Andhra Pradesh, followed by their journey towards Malkangiri.
The special attraction of the yatra is the boat journey of the revered Goddess Mutyaluma, Lord Balraj, Potraj and Kanamraj. The devotees, who had gathered in large numbers, took a dip in the river and offered their prayers to seek the blessings of the Almighty.
This eagerly awaited spectacle, celebrated with unbridled enthusiasm and piety, is the district’s most anticipated event. The procession is led by a decorated chariot adorned with a kaleidoscope of flowers, lights, and colorful decorations. As the chariot winds its way through the streets, the air is filled with the sweet scent of incense and the fervent prayers of the faithful.
The district administration, anticipating a huge crowd, has meanwhile geared up for smooth conduct of the festival. All necessary arrangements have been put in place to maintain law and order during the festivities.
