Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials today arrested one Ashis Kumar Ghadei, Junior Engineer (JE) of Badasahi block in Mayurbhanj district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 65,000 from a contractor for facilitating the release of pending bill.
According to an official press release, based on the complaint of the contractor, the Vigilance today laid a trap in which accused JE Ghadei was caught by the anti-graft agency’s team near Jadabani under Khunta police limits while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 65,000 from the contractor (complainant).
The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Ghadei and seized in presence of witnesses. Ghadei’s right-hand wash gave a positive chemical reaction, confirming his acceptance and handling of bribe money by him, the press release said.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential house of Ghadei at village Chipatastia, Baripada and his office chamber at Badasahi, Mayurbhanj, the press release added.
In this connection, Vigilance has registered a case against Ghadei under section 7 of the PC Amendment Act, 2018, and is under investigation, the press release further said.
