Bhubaneswar: BJD today alleged that BJP’s Kendrapada MP candidate Baijayant Panda has cheated the people of the Lok Sabha constituency by deliberately suppressing his role in his family’s business IMFA that has been exposed now.
Convening a press meet, BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra said, “Today meet to express how BJP leader Baijayant Panda has cheated the people of Kendrapada. And also his act has now been exposed.”
He stated, “You all know how in March, 2018 a criminal case was filed against the then MP Baijayant Panda for violating the Representation of People Oct (RPA), 1951. This was for filing a false election affidavit in the 2014 elections for deliberately suppressing his role in his family’s business. He has been earning from his mining company IMFA years after years. This was not mentioned in his affidavit. Now this has been exposed by Baijayant Panda himself.”
Laying forth certain documents, the BJD spokesperson said, “This is the affidavit filed by him in 2014. In 2014 election affidavit, under the section of profession or occupation, Baijayant Panda mentions about himself as “Sitting Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha”. There is no mention about his business interests and role as a Vice Chairman of a mining company, IMFA. However, when the issue of cheating and suppressing of facts were raised, he has been forced to mention it in his 2019 affidavit. In Page No 19, he has clearly mentioned as Appointment as Vice Chairman of the company (IMFA) for a period of 3 years from 28.10.2018 with monthly remuneration of Rs 17 lakhs, which amounts to more than 2 crores annually.”
Stating further, “Now the question here arises why he didn’t mention it in 2014? Tomorrow he may argue that he wasn’t the vice chairman in 2014,” the BJD spokesperson contended, “Now that also we are exposing here. As per the Annual Report of 2013-14 and 2014-15 of IMFA, he is mentioned as the Vice Chairman of IMFA, drawing an annual salary over Rs 1 crore.”
On the contrary, no counter reaction of Baijayant Panda was available with OMMCOM NEWS despite concerted efforts till the filing of this news.
