Baitarani Swells; Thousands Affected In Bhadrak And Jajpur Districts

Bhubaneswar: Thousands of people were affected and hundreds acre of land were submerged due to flood triggerd by heavy rains in catchment areas in Bhadrak and Jajpur districts on Tuesday.

The heavy downpour caused flood like situation river Baitarani.

Official sources said two Blocks of Bhadrak district - Bhandaripokhari and Dhamnagar – were worst affected.

According to a release from Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) office, nearly 20411 persons from 25 villages of Bhandaripokhari Block were affected due to the flood.

About 200 hectres of crop land of Bhandaripokhari block and 654 hectrs of crop land of Dhamnagar block have been submerged.

The SRC office also stated that two power boats and one health team have been deployed in Solampur village under Bhandaripokhari Block. One ODRAF team has been stationed at Dhamnagar.

Similarly, flood like situation has been occurred in Jajpur, Dasarathpur and Korei Block in Jajpur district. Two ODRAF teams have been deployed at Jajpur and Dasarathpur block.

At 6.00 P.M the river Baitarani is flowing at 37.00 meter against danger level of 38.36 meter at Anandpur with a falling trend.

Similarly, the river is flowing at 18.56 meter against danger level of 17.83 meter at Akhuapada with a falling trend.

At 6.00 P.M the river Subarnarekha is flowing at 11.12 meter against danger level of 10.36 meter at Rajghat with a rising trend.

The situation is expected to become normal tomorrow, the release stated.
