New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The 16-year-old girl from Balanga in Odisha’s Puri district, who was allegedly set on fire by unidentified assailants on July 19, remains in a critical condition after undergoing surgery at AIIMS Delhi, the institute confirmed in an official statement on Wednesday.

According to the AIIMS Delhi Media Cell, the teenager sustained 75% burn injuries and was airlifted from AIIMS Bhubaneswar on July 20 for advanced care at the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery in the national capital.

On the fifth day of admission, she underwent surgery to manage deep burns, and is currently on oxygen support. A dedicated team of doctors is monitoring her condition round the clock.

“She remains in critical condition. The team is doing everything possible to support her recovery,” said Dr. Rima Dada, Public Information Coordinator, Media Cell, AIIMS Delhi.

The incident, which sparked widespread outrage across Odisha, has led to increased demands for justice and stringent action against the perpetrators.
