Bhubaneswar: The accident before the RTO office in Balangir on Saturday that led to the death of a person was an intentional attempt on life, informed SP Kusalkar Nitin Dagudu on Monday.
Previous enmity and land dispute was the motive behind the crime. There are two accused including one Chittaranjan Mohanty who has been detained and presently hospitalised as he was also injured in the accident, the SP added.
Reportedly, one Srikant Bag and Sanu Naik were on a bike when they were hit by a 407 truck near the Balangir RTO office on Saturday. Srikant had succumbed to head injury while Sanu and accused Chittaranjan Mohanty, who was in the truck, were injured.
Though it was considered an accident, family members of Srikant and Sanu suspected foul play and lodged police complaints alleging there was a conspiracy behind the accident. During the investigation, police verified the CCTV footage from the spot and collected other evidence.
Subsequently, the unnatural death case was turned into a murder case and Chittaranjan Mohanty was detained. Meanwhile, the probe is underway to unearth more details.
