Balasore: A private tutor from Teghari village in Balasore district attempted suicide on Saturday morning after losing more than Rs. 5 lakh playing online games, highlighting the devastating consequences of gambling addiction.
According to reports, Saurajit Ray of Teghari village under Jaleswar police limits, reportedly suffered severe financial losses while playing online games. Overwhelmed by the debt, Ray became increasingly distressed and had made several prior suicide attempts. This morning, in a desperate act, he repeatedly stabbed himself in the hands and neck with a knife.
Family members rushed him to the Government Hospital at Jaleswar, where he was admitted in critical condition. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Balasore for advanced treatment.
Ray’s case underscores the growing risks associated with online gaming addiction, which can lead to significant financial and emotional tolls. Local police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
