Balasore: Balasore police have launched ‘Operation Sandstorm’ to put an end to illegal mining and lifting of minor minerals.
Under this planned pro-active action each SDPO of Balasore police district has been tasked with identifying areas where rampant mining of sand and other minor minerals is occurring despite NGT ban and to take stringent action which includes registering criminal cases against the perpetrators and starting a financial investigation against them, said an official press release.
This assertive action will aid in curtailing the economic capacity of the sand mafias, the release said.
Under this initiative, today morning, Nilgiri police successfully apprehended seven drivers and detained six tractors and one tipper-truck from Sono river bed on charges of illegal sand mining.
Criminal case under OMMC Act will be registered against the accused persons. Similar strong and assertive action will be taken by all police stations of Balasore police under the direct supervision of SP Balasore.
In the sub collector issue, it can be mentioned that within 12 hours of occurrence 11 persons were apprehended. Five small teams were formed for it. Apprehended accused have many previous cases pending against them. Overnight raids were conducted in Remuna, Mandarpur, Industrial, Town, Chandipur, Soro areas.
