Bhubaneswar: A 14-year-old boy has been fighting for his life after being locked in a box for over four hours by a young man in the Nilagiri area of Balasore district, on Monday.
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 3:30 pm when the victim, a Class VIII student, visited his neighbour’s house. An altercation ensued, and the accused allegedly beat the boy before locking him in a box.
The boy’s family made a frantic search when he failed to return home. Suspecting foul play, they visited the neighbour’s house around 8 pm and found the boy unconscious in a dark room, locked inside the box.
The victim was immediately rushed to Nilagiri Hospital, where his condition remains critical.
Police have detained the accused and are investigating the matter. “The reason behind the incident is unclear, and we are investigating,” said Gopal Chandra Kar, Inspector-in-Charge, Nilagiri Police Station.
A case has been registered, and further details are awaited.
