Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Balasore on Saturday sentenced former Secretary of Balasore Urban Cooperative Bank, presently serving as Recovery Officer of the same bank Prasanta Kumar Das to two years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fine after convicting him in a corruption case.
According to an official press release, Das was earlier charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) PC Act 1988, for showing undue favour to the land owners in purchase of Ac 0.182 dec. land at a rate much higher than the Govt. benchmark valuation, for which the said Bank sustained huge loss of Rs 64,16,776.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Das from service following his conviction, the release added.
