Balasore: A 23-year-old woman from Balasore district has alleged that she was abducted and gang-raped over a period of six months after being taken to Mayurbhanj, police said on Wednesday.

According to her complaint, the woman was abducted in March by a man from her locality and kept confined in Baripada, where she was allegedly subjected to repeated sexual assault and physical torture by multiple persons. She managed to escape recently and approached the Bhograi police station on Tuesday.

Bhograi police said that earlier, on March 3, the victim’s mother had filed a complaint alleging that her daughter had eloped with a man and taken jewellery worth over ₹3 lakh. A case was registered then, police added.

Following her fresh complaint, the woman has been shifted to a rehabilitation centre in Balasore and a medical examination was carried out on Wednesday. Police said efforts are on to trace and arrest the accused persons involved in the crime.
