Balasore: The body of an elderly man with deep cuts on his head was recovered from a village pond today morning under Soro Police Station (PS) limits while prima facie points at murder.
The family members allege that the man has been hacked to death by their relatives over a long-standing land dispute.
While the incident has taken place in Kesharipur village, the deceased has been identified as Maheswar Mallick (60).
The deceased’s son Prasanta Mallick alleged, “My father’s body was found lying in this pond. A quarrel was continuing between my father and my two paternal uncles in connection with a disputed land. And this incident has happened before their home. Blood stains have been found on the spot. My mother has seen their family members cleaning the blood stains.”
“When we searched for our father last night and couldn’t trace him out, we noticed his body here in this village pond this morning. He has been hacked to death as he has sustained fatal injuries on his head,” he added.
On being informed, Soro police rushed to the spot and initiated investigation. The two accused persons were detained and were being interrogated.
Till the filing of the report, no arrest was made by the police.
