Cuttack: The historic Balijatra will be held on the banks of river Mahanadi in Cuttack this year, after a gap of two consecutive years, Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani informed today.
“Taking into account the drop in COVID cases, we are planning to organise Bali Jatra this year,” he said. The State Government recognised Cuttack’s ‘Bali Jatra’ as a state-level festival in 2019.
Bali Jatra is organised since time immemorial to celebrate the maritime heritage of Odisha. Every year it begins on the day of Kartika Purnima, commemorating Odia mariners’ journeys to Bali, Java, Sumatra, Borneo and Sri Lanka for trade and commerce.
