Balipatna Burning Case: Three Family Members Arrested For Setting Man Ablaze

Bhubaneswar: Balipatna police arrested three family members in connection with the death of 40-year-old Jyoti Ranjan Mathia, who succumbed to burn injuries while undergoing treatment at Bhubaneswar AIIMS.

According to the police, the family members of the deceased – Surendra Mathia (father), Prabhati Mathia (stepmother), and Prashant Mathia (stepbrother) – were arrested based on a complaint filed by deceased Jyoti’s wife.

According to ACP Abhimanyu Nayak of Zone-4, the preliminary investigation reveals that the victim’s family members killed him over a land dispute. The suspects allegedly poured petrol on the victim, setting him ablaze. The accused, including the father, stepmother, and stepbrother, have been arrested and produced in court. Further investigation is underway, and the police plan to take the accused into remand for more interrogation.

Notably, before his death, the victim had stated that his family members poured petrol on him and set him on fire.
