Puri: The Banakalagi (facial) niti (ritual) of Lord Jagannath and his siblings will be performed on August 9 (Wednesday), sources said.
As special rituals of the deities will be held tomorrow which happens to be Shravana Makar nakshatra, the Banakalagi ritual cannot be held, the sources added.
The meeting of the Managing Committee of the Shree Jagannath Temple which was scheduled to be held today to take a decision on Banakalagi ritual was put on hold for unavoidable reasons.
On the other hand, Dattamohapatra Nijog has intimated to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) through a letter that it is prepared to perform Banakalagi of the deities whenever the latter decides for the same to be done.
