Bhubaneswar: The Bar Council of India today lifted the suspension on 54 lawyers in connection with protesting and ransacking on court premises in Sambalpur last year.
In a letter to the Odisha State Bar Council, the Bar Council of India informed about revoking the suspension of 54 advocates of the Sambalpur District Bar Association, whose license had been suspended by BCI in December 2022.
The BCI has allowed the inclusion of the names of the aforementioned lawyers in the voter list in the ensuing Bar Council Election. The BCI had suspended the practice license of the lawyers and barred them to enter the court premises to participate in any legal matter.
The Supreme court had also directed the State police to act strictly against the erring advocates who were indulged in violence.
Following the apex Court’s direction, the police arrested the lawyers. Demanding a High Court bench, the lawyers had barged into the Sambalpur district court and allegedly ransacked the premises, on December 12, 2022.
