Bhubaneswar: Hours after resigning from the BJD, Baramba Block Chairman Raghupati Mohanty, along with numerous sarpanchs and samiti members from Baramba in Cuttack district, joined the BJP at the state headquarters in Bhubaneswar.
They embraced the saffron camp in the presence of state president Manmohan Samal and Baramba MLA Bijay Dal Behera.
“I, along with many sarpanches and Samiti members, have joined the BJP after being inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda. I joined the BJP to support development, as the work of people’s representatives is to support and follow the development path,” Mohanty said.
Mohanty left the BJD after formally sending his resignation to the BJD president earlier in the day. In a social media post, Raghupati wrote, “I have realized that my services are not required in the party for various organizational and political activities. Therefore, I am resigning from the party.”
The majority of sarpanch and samiti members from 38 panchayats in Baramba were present at the Mishran parba. Some others who did not attend also expressed their interest in joining soon, Mohanty added.
