Cuttack: Barang police have cracked the Suchitra Bala Sahu murder case of Madhupur with the arrest of her daughter-in-law—Saraswati.
Police have seized the weapon of offence—an iron rod used in the murder and blood-soaked dress of the accused.
According to the police, Saraswati murdered her mother-in-law Suchitra Bala Sahu by hitting her with an iron rod while she was sleeping.
“The gruesome murder took place on the night of December 5. Both Suchitra Bala and her daughter-in-law Saraswati slept in the same room. Since Saraswati was pregnant, Suchitra Bala forbade her from switching off the lights in the room and asked her to remove her dress before going to sleep. The two had arguments over these. Using the iron rod kept by Suchitra Bala for self-protection, the accused daughter-in-law hit the former on her head with it leading to her death,” informed Anil Mishra, Addl. DCP briefing reporters.
Mishra said that the accused informed her father-in-law in the morning that somebody had killed her mother-in-law and hid the iron rod and blood-soaked dress.
“During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to her crime and took the police to the place where she had hidden the iron rod and the blood-soaked dress which was seized by the police,” Mishra added.
