Nayagarh: In an abject act of barbarism, a money lender allegedly gouged an eye out of a poor villager as the borrower allegedly turned defaulter.
Such a deplorable and inhumane incident has been reported from Sajanapada village under the Sadar Police Station (PS) limits here in the district.
Reports said that one Pramod Routray of Sajanapada village is the son-in-law of nearby Sathiapalli village.
He had borrowed some money from his uncle-in-law on the promise that the loan amount should be paid off with the interest money.
However, Pramod failed to keep his promise to repay by the committed deadline.
Pramod’s brother-in-law, somehow, managed to persuade the former to Sathiapalli and a heated argument over the loan ensued following which the moneylender allegedly instigated some of his aides to gouge an eye out of Pramod yesterday.
While an FIR has been lodged with the Sadar PS, critical Pramod was initially admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here late last night and later shifted to Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital as his condition worsened.
