Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance today caught the District Public Health Officer (DPHO) of Bargarh Dr Chulabati Sahu for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 for issuing a food safety licence to a person for his new hotel.
Based on a complaint by the hotel owner, Vigilance officials laid a trap today.
Accused Dr Sahu was caught by Vigilance officials in her residence at Bargarh while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from the complainant, said an official press release.
The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Dr Sahu and seized in presence of witnesses.
Both hands wash of Dr Sahu gave a positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by her.
Following the trap, Vigilance has launched simultaneous searches at the residence and office of Dr Sahu at Bargarh.
In this connection a case has been registered against the accused Dr Sahu at the Sambalpur Vigilance police station under section 7 of the PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment ) Act, 2018.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
