Bargarh: Four notorious robbers from two different villages in the Saintala region of Balangir district, were apprehended by the Bargarh police on Sunday.
The members of the gang are identified as, Indra Bhoi (21) and Chaitanya Puta (19), belonging to Dangaramunda village. Meanwhile, Lalit Sahoo (25) and Doleswar Sahoo (26) are from Banaras village, under the jurisdiction of Saintala police station in Balangir district.
According to reports, the miscreants robbed Rs 4.38 lakh from Chayakanta Pradhan of Babebira village, under the Attabira police station of Bargarh district. The incident occurred while Pradhan was on his way back home after withdrawing the amount from the bank on July 20 last month. Pradhan immediately reported the robbery at the Attabira police station.
Police officials, upon receiving a complaint of the crime began an investigation and apprehended the four robbers along with the stolen valuables found in their possession.
“Two special squads were formed to investigate the matter and search for the miscreants at all probable locations. Upon receiving information about the gang from a reliable source, police nabbed the gang from Saintala, Balangir district,” Said Prahlad Sahai Meena, SP of Bargarh.
Meena added, “Stolen valuables, including Rs 3.80 lakh in cash, five two-wheelers, one pistol, eight mobile phones, and jewellery made of gold and silver, were seized from the gang.”
On being asked about the gang’s involvement in other cases, Meena confirmed, “Including this incident, five more cases are registered against the gang at different police stations, two of which are in Attabira, and others in Barpalli, Dunguripali, Sindhekela, and Agalpur police stations.”
The gang usually targets people moving alone in isolated locations, snatching the valuables by threatening the individuals.
The gang of robbers are involved in multiple robbery cases in Bargarh, Balangir, Sambalpur, and Sonepur districts.
