Bargarh: There was a time when Ashok Sahu of Bargarh had to go to Tamil Nadu for work and had to endure torture for earning.
In such a difficult time, the Horticulture Department of the State government extended a helping hand. Mango saplings were given for free and with proper training and subsidies, Sahu is a successful farmer today.
He worked hard and cultivated mangoes on his 2 acres of barren land. And now he is earning in lakhs by selling different varieties of mangoes.
Sahu, a native of Bhutibahal village in Raysalpadar panchayat in Gaisilat block has created a separate identity for himself by becoming a successful farmer.
He has himself become self-employed and motivated five youths from the village to take up farming instead of going outside the state for work.
41-year-old Ashok was forced to go outside the State for work as his land was barren and there were no irrigation facilities in the area. The Horticulture Department of the State Government helped and brought back Sahu into mainstream.
His strong will, hard work has finally led to success. As a millionaire farmer selling mangoes, Sahu is now setting an example for young farmers and workers across the state.
“He cultivates mangoes of various types like Daseri, Amrapalli, Langda, and Mallika on his two acres of land. Instead of using chemical fertilizers and pesticides, Sahu and the other young farmers are taking care of mango trees using biological methods,” a social worker of Raisalpadar, Mukesh Sahu said.
“Sahu will be given all kinds of training in the coming days and other government assistance will be provided,” said Govind Pradhan, Director of Horticulture, Padmapur.
