Bhubaneswar: Intense heat wave conditions virtually made Odisha a boiling cauldron on Saturday with the mercury soaring above 45 degree Celsius in two places even as the regional Meteorological Centre here has forecast harsh weather tomorrow.
According to data available from the MeT department, both Boudh and Baripada turned out to be the hottest place in the country recording 45.2 degree Celsius followed by 44 degree Celsius in Nuapada.
Notably, as many as 13 places of Odisha touched temperature of 43 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Going by the data provided by MeT department, places recorded above 43 degree Celsius temperature include Nuapada (44 degree Celsius), Talcher (43.6 degree Celsius), Bolangir (43.6 degree Celsius), Nayagarh (43.5 degree Celsius), Angul (43.5 degree Celsius), Keonjhar (43.5 degree Celsius), Jharsuguda (43.2 degree Celsius), Hirakud (43.1 degree Celsius), Sambalpur (43 degree Celsius), Sundargarh (43 degree Celsius), Titlagarh (43 degree Celsius), Sonepur (42.7 degree Celsius), Rourkela (42.6 degree Celsius), Dhenkanal (42 degree Celsius), Bhawanipatna (42 degree Celsius), Chandbali (41.6 degree Celsius), Malkangiri (41.6 degree Celsius) and Bhadrak (41.5 degree Celsius).
By 2.30 pm today, Keonjhar was the hottest place with 43.5°C followed by Jharsuguda 43.2°C, Sambalpur 42.7°C, Rourkela 42.6°C, Hirakud 42.6, Chandbali 41.4°C, Bhubaneswar 40.5°C, Balasore 40.2°C, Puri 34.6°C, Paradip 33.2°C and Gopalpur 32.6°C.
The IMD advised people, especially the aged, children and pregnant women, not to venture outside their homes between 11 am and 3 pm.
Meanwhile, the weather agency has predicted rain and thunderstorms under the influence of Kalabaisakhi in several parts of southern Odisha.
