Baripada: The Special Fast Track POCSO Court, Mayurbhanj, sentenced a 60-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a differently-abled minor girl. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the accused, with an additional six months of imprisonment in case of non-payment.
In addition to the sentencing, the court directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide ₹4 lakh as compensation to the victim to support her recovery and rehabilitation.
According to the case details, the convict, Birasingh Hansdah, a resident of Kusumi village under Badampahar police station, abducted the victim on May 28, 2024, while she was returning home from a nearby hospital.
Taking advantage of her vulnerability, Hansdah held the girl captive for two days and subjected her to sexual assault. After returning home, the victim confided in her family, who promptly lodged a complaint with the Badampahar police.
The police registered a case, recorded the victim’s statement, and arrested the accused, who was later presented in court.
The prosecution, led by public prosecutor Manoranjana Pattanaik, relied on witness testimonies, medical reports, and police investigation findings to build a robust case.
