Baripada: Police have cracked the murder case of a youth whose body was recovered from the bank of Budhabalang river at Gumudihi under Baripada Sadar police limits on Thursday.
Police have identified the deceased as Chandan Swain (33) of Hindulia village under Marshaghai police limits in Kendrapara district, and arrested two people in connection with the crime.
One accused, Ashish Singh, was arrested from Balasore railway station and his friend from Jambani village.
According to reports, Chandan’s body was spotted by a villager who informed the police about this. Following this, Baripada Sadar SDPO Sujit Kumar Pradhan, Baripada Sadar police station officer Madhusmita Mohanty and Baripada Town police station officer Sumit Kumar Soren reached the spot and conducted an investigation. The youth’s body was buried in the sand, and a scientific team exhumed it out in the presence of a magistrate. The police, after examining the circumstances, suspected that it was a murder.
The youth was killed almost a week ago and his body was buried in sand on the river bank. A case was registered at the Baripada Sadar police station in this connection and the police started an investigation.
During investigation it was found that the deceased’s friends had kidnapped him and called his family members for ransom money.
Subsequently, his family members living in Bhubaneswar lodged a complaint at the Kharbela Nagar police station.
The accused have confessed to their crime, said Baripada Sadar SDPO Sujit Kumar Pradhan.
