Bhubaneswar: A day after the chariots of the Puri Srimandir Trinity rolled out to the Gundicha on the deities’ annual 9-day sojourn, devotees in Odisha’s Baripada will pull the chariots of Lord Jagannath and His siblings Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra on Wednesday.
It is worth mentioning here that Baripada is also known as the second ‘Srikhetra’ after Puri.
On Tuesday, servitors carried the deities on the chariots in a grand procession known as ‘Goti Pahandi’. In Puri, the procession carrying the Lords to their respective chariots is known as ‘Pahandi Bije’.
Following an age-old tradition, devotees in Baripada will pull the chariots of the Holy Trinity today. The chariot of Lord Balabhadra will be pulled first followed by Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath. What is unique about the Baripada Rath Yatra is that only women devotees pull the chariot of Devi Subhadra.
While the chariot of the Goddess will travel for half of the way on Wednesday, the chariots of Lord Jagannath and Devi Subhadra will reach the Gundicha temple on Thursday.
Meanwhile, thousands of devotees have thronged Baripada town to participate in the unique Rath Yatra of the deities.
