Balangir: The woman police constable who is fighting for her life at a local hospital in Balangir after being brutally attacked by her husband a fellow police constable, appealed for justice demanding the immediate arrest of her husband.
According to sources, the incident occurred on December 8 at Samara Square under the Tusura police station limits in Balangir district.
According to Nupur’s statement, her husband Jyoti Pradhan and she work as constables at Balangir Reserve Police. On the fateful day, they were returning home from a family gathering when Nupur requested her husband to pull over the bike so that she could go to the toilet. After a few metres, Jyoti stopped the bike near Samara Square and attacked Nupur with the help of his friend who waiting for him at Samara Square. Then her husband’s friend first pulled her hair, and then Jyoti attacked Nupur. Local farmers came to the rescue of Nupur after she screamed for help following which Jyoti and his friend fled the scene.
Meanwhile, Balangir Superintendent of Police Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo issued the suspension order on Friday following an investigation into the incident. While police have managed to arrest Jyoti’s friend, Jyoti is still on the run.
Frustrated by the police’s inaction, Nupur expressed her anguish saying, “Six days have passed since the incident, but the police have failed to arrest my husband. As long as he remains at large, my life and that of our 10-month-old child remain in danger. I want to know what drove him to attempt to kill me, especially when our relationship seemed normal. He didn’t have any extramarital affairs, nor did I. What then prompted this brutal attack?”
