Sambalpur: The Bar Council of India (BCI) has suspended licenses of another 11 lawyers practicing in Sambalpur over the protest and vandalism on court premises. With this, the tally of suspended lawyers rose to 54.
The BCI had canceled the licenses of around 1600 lawyers of Sambalpur District Bar Association over the incident in the district court on December 12. As many as 23 lawyers were arrested by the police in this connection.
On Friday, the bail petition of these lawyers were rejected by the SDJM of Samabalpur. It is expected that the lawyers represented by an Advocate from Kuchinda will move the District and Sessions Court for bail today.
On the other hand the District Legal Services Authority has setup a helpdesk for litigants who are facing inconviniences due to the lawyers’ strike over Orissa High Court bench in western Odisha matter.
The BCI has setup a fact finding team to probe the court vandalism incident. On the other hand, as this case is being monitored by the Supreme Court, the district administration has not given any official statment on the ongoing issue.
