Balasore: The BDO of Simulia, Biswaranjan Mohanty who was found hanging in his official quarters, was under severe mental depression due to heavy work burden.
It was alleged by his father Narendra Mohanty.
“Biswaranjan was in depression as he was not given leave by the collector to visit home. He often told me that he had a hectic schedule due to various works assigned by the Collector. I spoke to him last on Tuesday. He came to home once since he joined there,” Narendra said.
He took charge of the Simulia BDO in October last year and was supposed to retire from services in June 2026, he said.
On the other hand, Balasore Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde rubbished the allegation of BDO’s father. He said “He never applied for leave. There were no issues in granting him leave. He attended a review meeting last week and we have not noticed anything unusual. Inquiry will be conducted to find whether he was under work pressure or not,” Shinde added.
BDO’s wife Sila Mohanty denied the suicide aspect.” He was very sociable. I can’t believe that he would take such a drastic step,” she said,
Biswaranjan was found hanging in his government quarters in the afternoon on Thursday.
After receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot, broke open the entrance door and discovered him hanging from the ceiling.
The officer was alone in his residence when the incident occurred.
The Tahasildar along with revenue officials reached the spot. Post-mortem examinations will be conducted under magistrate supervision, police said.
