Bhubaneswar: A bear died of electrocution at Mitrapur Taila Sahi under Nilagiri police limits in Balasore district.

The bear, whose age and sex have not been confirmed, was found dead near a transformer in Tailasahi village.

According to sources, the bear had wandered into the village in search of food and was attempting to climb a tree to pluck mahua flowers when it accidentally came into contact with a live 33 KV electric transformer. The bear suffered severe burns and died instantly.

Local residents discovered the carcass in the morning and informed the electricity department and forest department officials.

Upon arrival, the electricity department retrieved the bear’s body from the transformer and handed it over to the forest department.
