Bear Enters Village, Attacks Forest Officials In Keonjhar

Keonjhar: Villagers and forest department officials were attacked by a bear at Puruna Bandhagoda village in Keonjhar district on Friday.

Reportedly, the bear had entered into the village from the nearby Barang reserve forest under Anandapur Wildlife Division of the district.

On getting information, forest personnel reached the village and attempted to ward off the bear into the forest with help of sticks and burning firecrackers.

However, the bear was enraged and jumped on people. It mauled the motorcycle of local forest guard Abinash Parida and dragged it into the forest.

Last night, it destroyed the items kept outside a shop in the village. As people shouted, it hid inside a bush. The forest department staff tried unsuccessfully to chase the bear.

As per last reports, another team of forest officials have reached the village and observing the bear’s activities. Villagers have been advised to not come out of their houses in the evening.
