Cuttack: As the demand for masks has surged amidst coronavirus scare, a women SHG at Kesharpur in Cuttack is working day and night to meet the requirements.
Around 30 members of Hazzi Ali SHG have been trained by Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) to manufacture masks. Each woman of the SHG is now working day and night to manufacture around 500 masks in a day as the coronavirus scare has increased their workload.
The team has already supplied 20,000 masks to their customers, but the order of 15,000 more masks is still pending with them and the demand is increasing day by day. The team produces three varieties of masks. Each mask is sold at a wholesale price of around Rs 10 to 15.
Their major customers are various Hospitals and Medicine Stores in and around the district. Besides manufacturing and supplying masks, they also train and supply raw materials to various SHGs in Athagarh, Banki and Salepur areas of the district. The team is now planning to supply masks to Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur.
