Bhubaneswar: One passenger died and seven others were injured when 11 coaches of the Bengaluru-Kamakhya Express derailed at Nergundi near Manguli at 11:54 am on Sunday.
The injured passengers have been admitted to SCB Medical College, where a special team of doctors is attending to them. The exact number of injured passengers is still unclear, according to the railway CPRO.
Emergency services, including Fire Services personnel and NDRF teams, rushed to the spot to launch rescue operations. Senior railway officials, including the East Coast Railway GM and Khurdha division DRM, also reached the site to assess the situation.
Following the derailment, three trains- Dhauli Express, Nilachal Express, Purulia Superfast have been diverted.
The East Coast Railway has arranged alternative transportation for stranded passengers and issued Help Line Numbers for assistance.
Senior officials from the district administration, including the Cuttack Collector and Cuttack Rural SP, have also arrived at the spot to oversee relief efforts.
