Berhampur: Berhampur University in Odisha’s Ganjam district has taken a novel step to reduce pollution on the varsity campus. Vice-Chancellor Geetanjali Dash issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday advising the students and staff of the university not to bring their personal vehicles to the educational institution on Saturdays.
Endeavouring to make the varsity campus ‘eco-friendly’ and pollution-free, the Vice-Chancellor has, however, allowed and encouraged them to bring e-vehicles, if they have any.
The notification read, “The Vice-Chancellor has been pleased to take an initiative to make the campus pollution free and to encourage zero-emission at least one day per week. Hence, all employees (both teaching and non-teaching) and students are requested to avoid using personal vehicles, bikes, scooters etc. inside the campus every Saturday.”
In addition, the university employees have been asked to wear khadi clothes during office hours on Fridays with a view to creating awareness for “nationality/ patriotism/ unity and integrity” among the staffers.
