Bhadrak: In a late-night surprise inspection, Bhadrak Collector Dilip Kumar Routray rushed to the new District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) building in Gelpur after receiving complaints about the absence of doctors in the Pediatric department of the Maternal and Child Health Wing (MCH Wing).
The visit, which took place in the wee hours on Monday, revealed serious lapses in duty, prompting the Collector to take immediate action.
According to reports, the Gynecology & Obstetrics and Pediatric departments at the MCH Wing in the new DHH building at Gelpur were recently made operational.
However, due to the hospital’s remote location in Gelpur, far from the town, most doctors have reportedly been neglecting their duties. Complaints had surfaced that children brought by ambulance during the night were first taken to the old district headquarters hospital and then transferred to the new DHH building, causing delays in treatment.
Acting on a tip-off that no doctor was present in the Pediatric department late at night Collector Routray made a surprise visit to the new DHH. Upon arrival, he found the duty doctor absent from the premises. The Collector immediately held discussions with the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) to address the issue and ensure accountability.
Sources indicate that strict action may be taken against the concerned doctors for dereliction of duty.
