Bahanaga: At a time when women look for handsome hunks with a fat salary for marriage, a Bhadrak-based girl has set an example by marrying his wheelchair-bound lover.
According to sources, Pitamber Panigrahi’s son Basant, a resident of Serapur under Simulia block in Balasore district was in love with Mayadhar Lenka’s daughter Bidusmita who resides at Talabandha village in Tihidi block. They have been in a relationship since 2016.
In 2021, Basant met with a road mishap when he was going to Bhadrak near Dahani Gadia Square on National Highway 16. He was critically injured in the road mishap. The accident left him bedridden for three years. Following the mishap, his waist and legs have become defunct.
Though Bidusmita’s parents were against solemnizing their daughter’s marriage with Basant, Bidusmita was quite determined to marry her long-time beau.
Impressed by Bidusmita’s unending love and dedication for Basant, Basant’s father solemnised the marriage of the lovebirds at Maa Tarini Temple situated under Jamujhadi panchayat.
Basant said, “I fell in love with Bidusmita in 2016. In 2021, I met with an accident that left me paralyzed from waist. Knowing my situation, she has never stopped calling me and meeting me. I tried my best to convince her to get married elsewhere. Every time I asked her to leave me, she said a big no. I am confident that I will recover soon and look after her.”
When asked Bidusmita the reason behind tying the knot with Basant, she said, “If I were married to Basant before he met with the fatal road mishap, had it been wise to dump him? Thus I decided to accept him as he is. My love is not selfish. I am determined that I will make him stand and walk one day. Despite being the only daughter of my parents, I went against their decision and married Basant, I am determined that they would understand my love for Basant one day.”
