Bhadrak: The Bhadrak police on Wednesday arrested the prime accused in the alleged rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Chandbali town.
The accused has been identified as Babul Das of Chandbali.
According to Bhadrak SP Manoj Kumar Rout, “The prime accused was arrested from Jagatsinghpur. The investigation will continue accordingly.”
The minor girl, a Class III student, had left her house around 2 pm on Tuesday but did not return. Her family and locals searched for her, and at around 8 pm, her body was found by some residents, who raised an alarm. The body was seized by police and sent to Chandbali Community Health Centre (CHC) for postmortem.
Following the incident, locals staged road blockades at several locations in Chandbali by burning tyres, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. A platoon of police was deployed in the area to control the crowd.
A scientific team has also been called in to assist the police in the investigation.
The probe into the case is ongoing.
