Bharatpur case

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has provided Personal Security Officer (PSO) to the army major and his fiancée who were allegedly abused by the police personnel in custody at Bharatpur police station on September 14 night.

The PSO will provide full-proof security to the Army officer and the woman round the clock.

The officer and his female friend were allegedly tortured by the police when they had gone to the police station to complain about a road rage on September 14 night. Some youths allegedly harassed them on the road on the same night.

Instead of addressing their concerns, the police allegedly tortured the Major and the woman, even sending her to jail without any justification.

Police arrested seven youths in connection with the harassment of the duo.

Earlier on Sunday, the District Court granted bail to all seven accused in the alleged assault case of the Army officer and his fiancée.

The seven arrested were namely Rakesh Naik, Abhilash Sawant, Aman Kumar, Aditya Ranjan Behra, Akash Padhiyari, Harish Manta, and Ashish Kumar.

The State government on Monday ordered an inquiry by a judicial commission into the alleged violence against the major and his fiancée in police custody.

The inquiry will be conducted by Justice Chittaranjan Das, and the Commission has been requested to submit the report within 60 days, the CMO stated.
