Bhubaneswar: The government has taken very seriously the matter pertaining to alleged misbehavior and attack on an Army officer and his fiancée at the Bharatpur police station, asserted Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
“After the matter came to notice both departmental and necessary action as per law has has been taken. Since the incident is extremely sensitive, the Crime Branch has been vested with the investigation of the case and directed to submit its report immediately within the specified time frame. The accused have been suspended and FIR has been lodged against them. Our government will never hesitate to take appropriate action against them,” said Majhi.
He said that upon getting the report those who are guilty will be awarded exemplary punishment.
“The government has a ‘zero tolerance’ policy on violence against women and harassment of women will not be tolerated under any circumstance,” he added.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida today met the Army officer’s fiancée at AIIMS today and enquired about her health condition. She assured the victim that stern action will be taken against those found guilty. “The government is monitoring the situation closely. We are committed to zero tolerance on violence against women,” said Parida.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Cuttack-Barabati Sofia Firdous has demanded immediate arrest of then IIC of Bharatpur. Firdous alleged that it was a case of system failure.
