Sambalpur: Gandhi Jayanti was observed with pomp and festivity at the Gandhi Temple at Bhatra village near Sambalpur in Odisha to celebrate the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Monday.
On behalf of the Sambalpur district administration, Additional District Collector Pradeep Sahu Bhatra garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the temple. On the occasion, Ramadhun was organised and a Sarva Dharma prayer meeting was held on the temple premises.
School students sang Gandhiji’s favorite hymn “Raghupati Raghav Rajaram, Pati Tapavan Sitaram”, while many officials of the district administration paid glowing tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. Many intellectuals of the city were present at the temple and paid their tribute by garlanding the statue of Gandhiji.
After the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat, the temple at Bhatra village is the only place where Bapu is worshipped.
The Gandhi temple was decorated and illuminated on the occasion of the ‘Father of the Nation’s’ 154th birth anniversary.
