Bhubaneswar: The Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha’s Kendrapara district has reopened for visitors on Sunday after being closed for nine days.
The park remained closed from January 5 to 13 for the annual census of crocodiles and migratory birds in the Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary.
The census was conducted in five ranges and carried out by the Forest Department staff and experts. As per the census report, there has been a marginal increase in the crocodile population this year. The census report said that 1,811 estuarine crocodiles were sighted at Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary and its nearby areas.
