Bhubaneswar: The world-famous Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district will reopen for tourists from August 1 after a three-month closure due to the saltwater crocodile breeding season.
According to reports, the park was closed from May 1 to July 31 to provide a safe environment for the crocodiles to mate and breed.
Tourists can explore the mangrove nursery, where they can witness the mangrove saplings and learn about their importance in the ecosystem. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a boat ride and discover various wildlife and environmental books at the boat library. The park’s museum is another attraction, showcasing the park’s unique biodiversity.
The park authorities have also set up a watchtower and a 600-meter-long wooden canopy walk, known as the Sky Walk or Walk Way, which offers a glimpse into the park’s flora and fauna. The walkway is 15 meters above the ground, providing a panoramic view of the park’s lush vegetation and wildlife.
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for tourists, the park authorities have made arrangements for boat services. Six fibre boats are available at Dangamala, while four fibre boats are available at Gupti. Tourists can book their tickets online through the park’s website.
As in previous years, polythene bags are strictly prohibited within the park premises. Visitors are advised to avoid carrying polythene bags to help preserve the park’s delicate ecosystem.
