Bhubaneswar: The Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara will be closed for tourists from January 8 to 10 for the crocodile census.
According to reports, the Rajnagar Wildlife Division has announced that the park, along with surrounding river channels, will be restricted to visitors during this period to ensure an accurate count.
Similarly, the Satkosia Tiger Reserve has also begun its crocodile census from January 8, with 14 teams comprising 70 forest staff and researchers conducting the survey over three days. Last year, 115 crocodiles were recorded in the Mahanadi river stretch.
The forest department has advised fishermen and tourists to avoid visiting the area during the census period, citing potential disruptions to the survey.
