Bhubaneswar: Authorities at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar have seized Rs 75 lakh unaccounted money from two persons arriving from New Delhi and Chennai.
The two passengers, whose identity is yet to be revealed, have been detained by the authorities for interrogation.
According to reports, the money was seized while screening the luggage of the passengers at the airport. While a whopping amount of Rs 50 lakh was seized from the bag of a passenger from Delhi, Rs 25 lakh was seized from another passenger who arrived in the capital city from Chennai.
The Income Tax department has seized the money and initiated an investigation into the matter. I-T officials are trying to ascertain the source of the cash.
Unaccounted cash worth lakhs of rupees has been seized from various places in Odisha ahead of the upcoming twin elections in the state but so far there have been no cash seizures from the airport.
