Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday announced a mega project for re-development of the area surrounding the Lingaraj Temple.
The 66-acre ‘Ekamra Kshetra’ development plan includes preserving heritage and development of the nine sites and their nearby areas with an expenditure of around Rs 700 crore.
OMMCOM NEWS Team interacted with Temple City denizens to get their views on this proposed mega beautification project around the centuries-old shrine. The excerpts:
“We are happy about the project. This is a city with an ancient heritage. We want the Old Town area to develop on the same lines as Puri development project. Bhubaneswar will attract more tourists and devotees from around the world. It will boost our economy.”
“This is a welcome step by the Government to evict encroahment around the temple. Traffic congestion used to be a regular affair. Tourists from other states were facing a lot of inconvenience. The project will ease traffic and facilitate smooth Darshan of the Lord.”
“Cleanliness is a major issue in this region. Once this project commences, the periphery of the shrine will be neat and clean. The surrounding will be clear from encroachment and devotees can get a clear view of the ancient temple.”
The overall sentiment of people in Bhubaneswar towards the development project has been positive. The denizens are willing to cooperate with the local administration in reclaiming beauty of the Old Town area.
