Bhubaneswar: A dentist in Bhubaneswar has allegedly been cheated out of a substantial amount of money by an imposter posing as a broker.
According to sources, the dentist identified as Jyoti Prakash Sahu, had come to Bhubaneswar from Jagatsinghpur to do an internship at a hospital. He saw a to-let poster on the roadside with a mobile number and called the number to inquire about a house on rent.
The broker, who identified himself as a real estate agent, asked Sahu to meet him and took him to see the house. Sahu liked the house and paid the agent two months’ advance rent.
When the dentist later visited the house with his luggage the next day, the owner denied any agreement. The homeowner also claimed that he had not received any advance payment from the dentist. Furthermore, the homeowner stated that the house was intended for commercial use.
Upon hearing this, the dentist contacted the broker, who claimed that the advance payment was for showing him the house. The dentist has since filed a complaint against the broker at Infocity police station.
Based on the complaint, police are currently investigating the matter.
