Bhubaneswar: A high-level review meeting on the city’s Drainage Master Plan and storm water management was held this evening at the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters. The plan aims to prepare a long-term strategy keeping in view the development of the city up to 2050.

The meeting was chaired by BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana and attended by IIT Roorkee professor D.S. Arya, City Engineer Bilas Kumar Behera, ADM Dr. Manoranjan Sahu, along with representatives from Smart City, BDA, IMD, OSCDMA, Water Resources Department, Revenue Department, IDCO and other technical experts.

Officials informed that the new Drainage Master Plan for Greater Bhubaneswar will integrate road networks, facilities, utility mapping, encroachment identification, and waterlogging solutions.

For accurate planning, a GIS-based mapping survey is being carried out, with data collection already underway. The survey is being conducted by scientists from IIT Roorkee, who also shared their interim progress report at the meeting.

It was further discussed that the collected data will be made available on the Bhubaneswar-One Citizen Portal for public access and multipurpose use. The plan will include both long-term and short-term measures, keeping citizens’ convenience at the core of its design.

IIT Roorkee has prepared a roadmap for implementation, and the survey work is expected to be completed by December.

The Water Resources Department has appreciated the survey efforts.
